Hingis' Returns

I'll admit it. World Team Tennis is not at the forefront of the sports psyche. In fact I would say that the majority of people have no idea what World Team Tennis is. However, World Team Tennis is seeing the rebirth of one of the best tennis players of all time, Martina Hingis. In a match against the Boston Lobsters, Martina Hingis completely dominated her namesake Martina Naviratilova. She played back to back to back and maintined her dominance. She starred in woman's doubles and mixed doubles and simply blanked her namesake in woman's singles.

Martina Hingis was one of the best tennis stories in the late 1990's. She was the heir apparent to Steffi Graf as the dominate player on the tour. She dominated for several years, during a period that revisionist sportswriters have called a soft era. Injuries cut short her career.

If she can get back to the physical level she needs to, if her ankle's can hold up for grueling three set matches, then the really winner will be the sport of tennis. Tennis needs more Martina Hingis's and less...what's her name?
